About Me
I’m Costin Schelling, a narrative and systems designer for tabletop and video games.
That’s the line on my business cards, but I also have experience in almost every aspect of game development: concept art, code, game art, and user experience.
My goal as a designer is to create games that are thematically, mechanically, and narratively consistent. That’s why I like to work in so many different areas. When working on personal projects or with a small team, my broad skill set enables me to contribute to broad portions of the project without outsourcing. When working with a larger team, I can fit wherever there’s a gap and still contribute work consistent with the project as a whole. I hope that this internal consistency comes across in all my projects, particularly those I had a leadership role in, such as my Game Jam projects.
Beyond my development skills, my soft skillset is my most invaluable point as a developer.
I’m an adept public speaker and presenter, which lets me concisely and effectively communicate information to my team in a leadership position. I’m an excellent writer, which is invaluable for design work and communication with team members. I’m also a quick learner, which is helpful when working with a small team or under time pressure; even with skills I don’t have mastery of, I’m always able to pick up new things and get the job done.
